MacDonald Bros. Farm Inc.

Fifth generation Elmer and Earle MacDonald operate a potato and beef cattle farm in Augustine Cove, PEI. Inherited from their father Donald, the two brothers established MacDonald Bros. Farm Inc. in 1968.

Along with Elmer’s son, Duane (the MacDonald’s 6th generation farmer), the MacDonald’s farm 1800 acres of potatoes, barley, and hay. They have also harvested cereals such as wheat and oats. “I truly believe in the 3 year crop rotation it helps sustain agriculture,” says Elmer MacDonald.

The MacDonald’s potato farm services mostly to the table market, however, they also service some seed markets and approximately 2,000,000 lbs to the processing sector.

Their Beef Cattle operation finishes approximately 140 feeders annually.

Elmer is the current chairman of the board for Mid Isle Farms.
