Cliff Dawson / Brian Dawson, Cape Traverse
As a child, Cliff Dawson had always farmed. As time passed he had decided to relocate to Ontario and work in the construction industry. Like many Islander’s, Cliff looked for opportunities that allowed him to move back to the Island. In 1956, Cliff bought his farm over the phone.
As the father of 3 children, Eric, Beryl, and Brian, he put them to work on the farm at early ages. As the children grew up they also moved away from Prince Edward Island. In 1973, Cliff flew to the western provinces and approached Brian. “I’m selling the farm, are you coming home?” Cliff told Brian. He did. In 1974 the farm began operating as Brian Dawson.
They farmed 125 – 175 acres of potatoes, and practiced the 3-year rotation planting hay and grain in the off years. Their potatoes serviced the table, processing, and seed sectors.
As evolution took place, farms were faced with many decisions. In 1997, Brian decided to sell the farm.
He now operates a lawn care business with many contracts across Prince Edward Island. |
