MID ISLE FARMS

Mid Isle Farms was founded in 1982 by 7 local shareholding families.
It is interesting to note that almost all of the shareholders farms are now being farmed by 4th,5th, and 6th generation farmers.

The History
As the potato industry of Prince Edward Island evolved a demand for washed potatoes surfaced, it became evident that there was a need for a potato wash & pack plant in order to remain competitive.

In 1979 the idea was brought forward. As conversations progressed, John Robinson thought of “no better way to break in board room table of their new office”, than to have an official meeting between the 5 interested families:

  1. Bertram & George Webster
  2. Elmer & Earle MacDonald
  3. John & Alan Robinson
  4. Ernie, Robert, and Reggie Mulligan
  5. Walter & Morley Wood
  6. Cliff & Brian Dawson
  7. John & Harleigh MacKay

Unanimously, they decided to move ahead with the project.

The Facilities
In 1982, a 14-acre site in the heart of the Island’s potato country, Mid Isle Farms Inc was brought to life.

Long Term Storages
There are currently two long-term storages that are temperature and humidity controlled, together the buildings that hold in excess of 30 million lbs. It is these high quality storages that let us assure our customers of a continuous supply of high quality potatoes throughout the shipping season, September to July.

The Packing Plant
The packing plant opened in April of 1983. It is equipped with state of the art sizing and packaging equipment. Mid Isle packages for both retail/grocery store and the food service/restaurant trades.

We package and ship yellow, red, round, and russet potato varieties that are supplied by our shareholders and other island growers.
